In the 2025-26 Budget, India announced a major policy shift to expand its nuclear power capacity from ~8.8 GW to 100 GW by 2047, aligning with its goals of 'Viksit Bharat' and net-zero emissions by 2070. To enable this, the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Act was passed in December 2025.
