Bills to amend women’s reservation law, and carry out fresh delimitation, introduced after division of vote in Lok Sabha
What's happening now
The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026 was introduced in the Lok Sabha to operationalise the 33% women's reservation quota ahead of the 2029 general elections. The introduction saw a formal division of votes (251 in favour, 185 against) due to sharp opposition over proposed changes to the existing reservation and delimitation framework.
