India overhauls inflation framework with new Producer Price Index, revised WPI
What's happening now
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has announced a significant overhaul of India's inflation measurement framework. This includes revising the base year for the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) from 2011-12 to 2022-23 and introducing a new series of Producer Price Indices (PPI), including output, input, and service PPIs.
