India tightens Mauritius tax treaty rules to prevent misuse of tax benefits, effective August 10

India has implemented stricter rules in its tax treaty with Mauritius, effective August 10, 2024. A new provision allows Indian tax authorities to deny treaty benefits if the 'principal purpose' of a transaction was merely to obtain a tax advantage.
