The economic viability of Compressed Biogas plants hinges significantly on the supply chain logistics of securing feedstock. Unlike conventional fossil fuels with established infrastructure, biomass feedstocks face unique challenges like seasonality, perishability, and low energy density. For instance, press mud (a byproduct of sugar processing) requires sourcing within a 25-km radius due to high moisture and temporary availability. The article highlights an aggregator-based model as a solution to bridge the gap between farmers and CBG plants, overcoming social reluctance towards legally binding contracts.
