These tests teach — they do not just score you

Every question carries an AI hint while you practise and a full AI explanation after you submit, so each test leaves you understanding more — not just marked right or wrong.

  • AI hint on every question

Stuck? A directional AI hint nudges your thinking during practice without revealing the answer.

  • Full AI explanation after submit

After you submit, every question opens into a full AI explanation — the concept, the answer and why the other options are wrong.

  • Root-word method for English

Tests are built around shared word roots, so mastering one root set helps you decode many unseen words on exam day.

The root-word method

These English tests are deliberately built around word roots. When you practise a set of words that share a root — for example, words from the Latin root "spec-/spect-" meaning "to look" (inspect, spectator, perspective, conspicuous) — you learn the root once and can then decode many unseen words that use it. Questions are ordered to reinforce roots you have just seen, so synonyms, antonyms and one-word substitution in SSC CGL English become easier to reason through instead of memorising word by word. The same teaching approach is planned for the Aptitude and General Studies sections coming soon.

SSC CGL Tier-1 exam pattern

The official SSC CGL Tier-1 paper follows the latest pattern: 100 questions for 200 marks in 60 minutes, split into four sections of 25 questions each, with English Comprehension worth 25 questions and 50 marks and marking of +2 for a correct answer and −0.5 for a wrong one. These practice tests cover that English Comprehension section. Note on timing: each practice test gives you 25 minutes as a comfortable learning pace, whereas in the live exam each of the four sections is locked to roughly 15 minutes — so treat the longer practice clock as room to learn, not the real exam limit.

About these tests & how to use them

How these tests were built

Each question in this series was drafted by an AI question-generation pipeline and then reviewed by a human before publication. The intent is to mirror the structure, difficulty and topic spread of the SSC CGL Tier-1 English section — not to reproduce any specific past-year question.

Explanations are AI-generated and shown after you submit a test. We label questions as AI-assisted so you can calibrate how much weight to put on each explanation. If you spot an error, tell us — we read every report.

How to use this series

  1. 1Start with the free Test 1 to get a feel for the question style and the timer.
  2. 2Take each test in one sitting with the clock running — treat the 25 minutes as focused practice time (the live exam is tighter).
  3. 3After submitting, read the AI explanation for every question you missed and note the topic.
  4. 4Come back each week as new tests are added, and re-attempt to see your accuracy move.

Frequently asked questions

Are these SSC CGL English mock tests free?
Test 1 is completely free and can be taken without an account. Tests 2 to 10 require a free MockTestZone account — there is no payment, no credit card and no paid tier. Creating an account also saves your scores and tracks your weak topics across attempts.
How many SSC CGL English tests are there?
There are 10 English tests available right now, with new tests added every week. Each test has 25 questions to be solved in 25 minutes.
Do these SSC CGL English tests teach, or just test me?
They teach. Every question has an AI hint while you practise and a full AI explanation after you submit, covering the concept and why each option is right or wrong. You leave each test understanding more, not just scored.
What is the root-word method in these English tests?
Tests are built around shared word roots. Learn one root — like "spec-/spect-" (to look) — and you can decode many unseen words that use it. Questions are ordered to reinforce roots, making SSC CGL vocabulary easier to reason through.
Do these tests follow the new / latest SSC CGL 2026 pattern?
Yes. They mirror the latest SSC CGL Tier-1 pattern: 100 questions, 200 marks, 60 minutes, four sections of 25 questions, with English worth 25 questions and 50 marks and marking of +2 correct / −0.5 wrong.
Are hints and explanations included on every question?
Yes. Every question has an AI hint available during practice and a full AI explanation after you submit. Hints guide your thinking without revealing the answer; explanations break down the concept and each option.
What is the marking scheme?
These tests follow the SSC CGL Tier-1 scheme: +2 for a correct answer, −0.5 for a wrong answer and 0 for an unattempted question. Each 25-question test is out of 50 marks.
What English topics do the tests cover?
The current tests focus on vocabulary and usage — synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one-word substitution and spelling. Reading comprehension and grammar are added as the series grows.
Are Aptitude and General Studies tests available?
Not yet. The English section is live now. Aptitude (Quantitative Aptitude / Maths), General Studies and a full 4-section Complete Mock are coming soon. Create a free account to be ready when they launch.
How were the questions written?
Each question was drafted by an AI question-generation pipeline and reviewed by a human before publication. Explanations are AI-generated. We do not claim to reproduce any specific past-year question.
When is the SSC CGL 2026 exam?
The Staff Selection Commission announces SSC CGL Tier-1 dates in its official calendar at ssc.gov.in. These tests stay available year-round as Tier-1 English practice — check the official SSC website for the latest exam schedule.
