Same as UPSC

+2 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one here; UPSC deducts a third of a question's marks, so a score on this page is a little stricter than the exam. The subject-wise papers are longer than the exam on purpose: one subject, every angle.

How these papers are made

Each subject paper holds one GS Paper I subject so you can isolate a weak area instead of guessing where you lost marks on a mixed paper. The questions were drafted by an AI pipeline from the year’s priority current-affairs events and the static syllabus behind them, in the statement-based, match-the-pairs and "how many of the above" shapes UPSC uses.

Every question was then reviewed by a human before publication, and every question carries an option-by-option solution. The intent is to mirror the structure, difficulty spread and topic weight of GS Paper I, not to reproduce any past question.

The full GS mocks are cut from the same reviewed bank in the exam’s subject mix and shape, so a sitting feels like the paper: mixed subjects, the real duration, negative marking on.

When the Prelims paper came out in May, we hand-checked it by meaning against what this series had covered. The result is on the coverage analysis page, linked below; it is a by-topic match, not the same questions, and no one had the paper in advance.

What you get

Without an account

  • Your score and the subject split the moment you submit.
  • Every question reviewed with its solution, right or wrong.
  • The time you spent on each question against its estimate.

With a free account

  • Saved scores and attempt history across every paper.
  • Your weak topics, tracked across attempts, with what to practise next.
  • AI hints while you solve, pitched to nudge, not to give the answer away.
  • AI explanations after you submit, written against the answer you gave.

How to use this series

  1. Pick the subject you are least confident in and take that paper first, in one sitting, with the timer running.
  2. After submitting, read the solution for every question you got wrong or guessed. Note the topic, not just the answer.
  3. Drill one subject at a time. When two subject papers read clean, sit a full GS mock with negative marking on.
  4. Re-attempt a paper after revising the topics it exposed, and compare where your accuracy moved.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to log in to take these UPSC practice mocks?
No. Every paper in this series is free and opens without an account. A free account adds saved scores, your weak topics across attempts, and the AI hints and explanations.
How is this series different from the UPSC mock tests page?
The UPSC mock tests page lists every UPSC paper on MockTestZone, CSAT included. This series holds the Surgical Strike GS Paper I papers only: one paper per subject, each built from the topics that carry weight and reviewed by a human, plus the full-length GS mocks cut from the same bank.
What subjects do the papers cover?
The GS Paper I subjects: Polity & Governance, History, Geography, Economy, Environment & Ecology, Science & Technology, Current Affairs. CSAT Paper II is not part of this series; the CSAT papers sit on the UPSC mock tests page.
What is the marking scheme?
+2 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong answer and 0 for a question you leave. UPSC deducts a third of a question's marks for a wrong answer, so a score here is slightly stricter than the exam.
How were the questions written?
Each question was drafted by an AI question-generation pipeline and reviewed by a human before publication. Solutions are AI-written and marked as such, so you can calibrate how much weight to put on each one. If you spot an error, tell us; we read every report.
Did these papers match the real Prelims paper?
By topic, not by question. When the May paper came out we hand-checked it by meaning: about two in five questions were on topics our students had already practised here or revised on PrepDose. No one had the paper in advance, and that is a coverage figure, not a promise of marks. The full breakdown is on the coverage analysis page.
When is the next UPSC Prelims?
UPSC publishes the date in its annual calendar, and the date line at the top of this page tracks it. These papers stay useful all year: the GS Paper I syllabus does not change between cycles.
Can I retake a paper?
Yes, as many times as you like. With an account every attempt is saved, so you can see whether a second sitting of the same paper went better.
